Trained to the modern management approaches, you are already familiar with the concepts of « Top-Down », « Bottom-Up », « Top-Down+Bottom-Up » or « Middle-out ». But the so expected transformation has not occurred yet.
Teams don’t appropriate the content, the emotional and irrational behaviors override, sometimes tainted with negative resentment and frustration. The instructions or suggestions provided are experienced as an authority they have to bypass or even compromise. What started as a teamwork turns into a contest. And any injunction is irredeemably interpreted like a sign of deflection. What used to proceed of an enthusiasm at the beginning becomes a kind of human nature observation practice including all neurotic aspects, at least.
A company also mirrors the larger society including all the particularism of the group living: sociopathy and psychopathy. A deep knowledge of the team profile contributes to define always more positive work relationships. And in the same time, it does reveal any unrealistic expectations for some associates to succeed in their tasks according to their effective level of competence.
